Aurora is a cross between Northern Brewer and TG hops of unknown origin. It is an average early variety, reaching its optimal ripeness between 23rd and 30th August. Plants are forming medium wide cylinder, side shots are 60 cm long and grow also on the bottom part of the stem. Aurora is cultivated in Slovenia. It needs a medium planting density. The average cones are 25 mm long and weight 15 g per 100 dry pieces. They are dense, of deep green colour and do not get shattered when picked by a picking machine.
Chemical structure and brewing evaluations: Aurora has an intense and pleasant hoppy aroma. It contains 6,5 % - 9.5 % of α-acids (22 - 26 % of cohumulone). The ratio between α- and β-acids is approximately 1,8. The essential oil content varies from 0.9 to 1.6 % of dry hops. The ratio between α-humulene and β-caryophyllene in the essential oil is about 3.2. Aurora has a very good storage stability. Beer prepared with this variety has good organoleptical scores. The yield of α-acids is very good when brewing with this variety. Aurora is very suitable for extraction and for combination with other varieties in the brewing process.

In Slovenia, the hop growing has a long tradition. Varieties that are grown traditionally are known as Styrians. Between them we can find: Styrian Golding, Aurora( Super Styrian®) and Styrian Golding B.
All varieties were introduced by the Slovenian Institute for Brewing and Hop Research, institution still responsible for permanent improvement in the fields of hop growing technology and breeding new varieties in Slovenia.
HMEZAD exim d.d. was established in 1952. It was organized as hop farmer’s cooperative in the beginning. Today it is a stock company and hop farmers or their organisations are holding a part of its shares. That's why company is still very close to growers.
Company’s main activity is hop trade and hop processing. Our mission is to supply brewers with high quality products. Following this, permanent care and stringent quality control is implemented so that hops quality is controlled through entire process. Beginning on the farm, with plant protection, harvesting, drying, baling and storage and further processing to hop products, until final delivery to customer.
