By aligning the inbound unit of measure with the client’s preferred pack quantity we can ensure that we are shipping out to our clients in the most economical way. This has a twofold benefit to the client of both reducing the amount of packaging required, in addition to reducing their logistics costs as we avoid any unnecessary replenishments. Through accurate order and van stock profiling with our clients’ field technicians, we ensure that stock held in the field is optimised and the reordering of parts is only made when they are really needed. Our in-house developed Van Stock Management software has enabled our clients to maximise field technician efficiency whilst simultaneously reducing cost and waste.
Pack Smart - Packing Initiatives that set a Precedent
At TVS we work closely with all of our suppliers to deliver in the same pack quantity that we will dispatch out to our clients’. Across our entire client base we are working on projects to align the pack quantity of parts which are common to all. This means we can not only source the parts cheaper, but also reduce waste, reduce the operational time spent by employees unpacking and re-packing and reduce storage space required by creating common part codes. This increased level of efficiency results in client satisfaction through improved field engineer output and more productivity throughout the entire supply chain; ultimately resulting in the all-important goal of most businesses, reduction in operational expenditure.
We recognise that there is always a balance between minimising the amount of packaging used and ensuring that parts are still adequately protected. We need to be happy that packaged items will be able to withstand the rigours of the transport network and arrive safely at the delivery location in perfect condition.
