Founded in 1868, Castle Malting® (Malterie du Château S. A.) is the oldest malting company in Belgium and one of the oldest family–run malting companies in the world. Highly efficient and successfully combining traditional and modern expertise, the Castle Malting® plant is focused on an ample variety of base and specialty malts, applying the best practices for minimizing the environmental impact of the production process.
Our traditional nine-day malting process successfully applied on modern technology and 100% traceability from the barley fields up to the shipping pallet are a solid guarantee of the premium quality of our malts.
With its brand-new, innovative roasting facilities Castle Malting® revolutionizes the malt roasting processes and produces a wide range of caramel and roasted malts with exceptional taste and aroma properties. The unique engineering design of our roasting facility and the progressive production technologies allow us to obtain the following advantages for our caramelized and roasted malts:
- even more flavor;
- a higher caramelization rate;
- less bitterness and astringency in higher colourations.
We offer a full range of malts for any type of beer or whisky a creative brewer or distiller may think of: more than 70 types of base and specialty malts - from the palest to the darkest kind – from barley, wheat, and other cereals. We produce standard base and specialty malts, customized base and specialty malts as per the customer’s specifications, as well as a full range of organic malts. We also offer peated malts in a complete range of phenol intensities for brewing and distilling.
Today, besides enjoying an excellent reputation among the demanding Belgian brewing community, the Château malts by Castle Malting® are successfully exported to more than 1600 brewers in 116 countries worldwide.
Malt is shipped to our customers around the world in various types of packaging. We collaborate with a large number of transport companies thus always being able to select the most attractive tariffs for each destination. Moreover, the nearby port of Antwerp, the leading harbour for malt export, minimizes the transportation cost.
