The Weihenstephan Research Center is part of the Technische Universität München (TUM), serving as a conduit for linking research, science and commercial brewing. The Research Center provides support and guidance for the brewing and beverage industry in matters concerning technology, engineering and commercial operations through the application of scientific knowledge and practical expertise.
The Weihenstephan Research Center has become established as a modern research institute within the TUM which also offers services to the brewing and beverage industry. Through its involvement in academic education, it serves as an important hub for research and education encompassing both theoretical and applied knowledge.
As an independent, public enterprise within the university system, the laboratories at the Weihenstephan Research Center are authorized and accredited to perform analysis and testing according to DIN EN ISO 17025. These services include chemical, chemical-technical and microbiological analysis.
In addition to laboratory analysis of raw materials, water, wort and beer, consulting expertise in both technology and microbiology also constitutes an integral part of the services offered by the Weihenstephan Research Center.

This synergy ensures they are very effective, guaranteeing accurate and rapid solutions to the questions and challenges arising in the industry.
With the well-equipped pilot brewery (including a keg filler and a bottling line), it is possible to brew trial batches of any kind. This allows the Research Center to brew a diverse range of beers, either in accordance with the Reinheitsgebot or otherwise, in addition to the production of numerous other beverages and liquid products. The microorganisms utilized for fermentation are supplied by the Research Center’s own Yeast Collection. This enables the Research Center to develop recipes and processes tailored to the specific needs of each customer as part of its impartial and confidential consulting services.
Analysis packages, such as the “Beer Carousel”, “Evaluation of Wort Boiling Systems” or “Predicting Haze Stability” represent systematically and rigorously developed solutions specifically created for the brewing and beverage industry. The service package is augmented by extensive seminar activities offered around the world.
