The company operates four plants at different locations in Germany and with a capacity of 340,000 mt/a is the biggest malting company in the country.
The malting plants are located close to both customers and raw material supplies. Three plants have direct access to major European waterways and thus are connected to the major export ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
Production All production plants have a uniform concept of technology and equipment. Steeping is effected by a combination of washing drum and steeping/germination boxes. Batch size is 150- 200 mt malt. Germination uses circular boxes equipped with high capacity fans for aeration. Sufficient cooling capacity enables adequate control of the process conditions. Kilns are 2 day single deck types with air and energy compound. Heat exchangers are installed to use the energy efficiently.
AVANGARD MALZ has a certified Quality Management System acc. to ISO9001 Standard. The production of by-products such as malt culms and feed barley, complies with IFSA rules which is verified by a certification acc. to IFIS standard and registration by the German organization Q&S.
Each plant has a fully equipped laboratory for common routine barley and malt analysis methods according to MEBAK and ANALYTICA EBC.
The central lab at Gelsenkirchen plant furthermore is equipped with a micro malting system and instruments for specialized analysis such as electrophoresis or ELISA. All laboratories participate in the ring checks organized by VLB Berlin and the MAPS schedule organized by LGC.
