Founded in 1886 the IBD is the global leading professional body for brewers and distillers. The IBD is a registered educational charity with the mission statement:
‘The advancement of education and professional development in the science and technology of brewing, distilling and related industries’.
The IBD provides professional qualifications supported by training and a wide range of training resources. Over 2000 candidates write IBD examinations every year – with examination centres in over 60 countries. Training is delivered as close to trainees as possible, with Distance Learning also being available. Training is supported with a wide range of learning resources and publications. There is a web based Learning Zone resource centre ;publications include the monthly Brewer & Distiller International as well as the peer reviewed Journal of the Institute of Brewing – which is also available as an on line resource – with past editions to 1890 fully digitised and searchable
The IBD is also a membership organisation and offers members important on going learning and Continuing Professional Development support through its popular events and Convention agenda. The IBD membership numbers in excess of 4500 professionals located in over 90 countries.
