Stabilization (Beer)


Divergan® is a polymer (cross-linked PVP) from BASF that is used for beer stabilization. It selectively adsorbs and removes the polyphenols responsible for turbidity while maintaining taste and character of the beer. Thereby Divergan helps to keep beer clear during storage and to increase its shelf life. Especially in regions subject to climate extremes (e.g., tropical countries or very cold regions), the use of Divergan guarantees constant colloidal stability. Divergan is completely separated from the beer during filtration. Thus, Divergan is not an additive and does not require to be declared on the label. The single-use product Divergan F can be used in existing filtration lines, and is highly efficient even at low dosages. A combination with other beer stabilizers (e.g., silica gel) is readily possible. Where the size of the brewery is appropriate, the installation of a regeneration line can be worthwhile. The cost-effective use of regenerable Divergan RS with its low loss rates has proved to be very efficient for many years. Approval for Divergan is available in all countries with a significant brewing industry

Silica Gel

The chemicophysical shelf life of beers is still a key factor, since consumers expect the quality of the beer to remain unchanged during storage. Silica gel, a high-purity amorphous silicon dioxide, is used for the selective adsorption of protein substances that cause hazing in beer. With the BECOSORB® Eaton’s Begerow® Product Line offers three different silica gels that have been specially developed for stabilising beer

•BECOSORB 1000: a xerogel with max. 10 % moisture content.

•BECOSORB 2500: a saturated xerogel with approx. 40 % moisture content.

•BECOSORB 6000: a hydrogel with approx. 60 % moisture content.


This 30 % silica sol has been specially developed for beer clarification and filtration improvement in the brewing industry. The effect of BECOSOL 30 is based on the tendency of the SIO2 particles to agglomerate with haze and protein substances in the beer. This improves the clarification effect and the filtration characteristics of the beers.
