The BUTTERFLY membrane mash filter - ideally suited for craft brewers
The mash filter with its separation set allows the processing of small batches. Moreover, alternative cereals or starch sources as well as wort types with a high extract content can easily be run off. Thus, the membrane mash filter offers maximum flexibility regarding the recipe design. Last but not least, the Butterfly achieves very good yield values at a low sparging water volume.
Moreover, the BUTTERFLY is flexible with regard to the grist mill type. In combination with a hammer mill, the membrane mash filter achieves its maximum yield values. The BUTTERFLY can, however, also be operated with usual, finely adjusted roller mill grist. Compared with current lauter technologies, which are installed in craft breweries, the yield values can often be significantly improved with the BUTTERFLY.
The BUTTERFLY is designed with a so-called “mixed” plate package, in which the chamber plates and membrane plates are alternately arranged. The membrane can be actively widened by means of a press medium. Thus, the spent grains cake can be pressed from both sides, resulting in maximum yields. In addition, the sparging water volume required per kilogramme of malt is reduced.
Another significant characteristic feature of the membrane mash filter is its variable sparging direction. The sparging of the spent grains cake can be carried out from both sides. This results in a self-cleaning effect due to which the mash filter cloths of the BUTTERFLY must be cleaned less frequently.
The BUTTERFLY membrane mash filter is available for brewhouses with a cast-out wort volume starting at 50 hl. With the mainly manual basic version, 6 to 8 brews per day are achieved. In combination with an automatic plate transport and an automatic cloth cleaning system up to 12 brews per day can be produced. These automation levels are installed either right from the beginning or will be retrofitted by ZIEMANN HOLVRIEKA at the existing mash filter.
In addition, the BUTTERFLY membrane mash filter can be integrated into an existing brewhouse as a stand-alone solution. For its commissioning, only a signal exchange must be established in the control system of the existing brewhouse. Thus, the BUTTERFLY can easily be installed as a sole or additional lautering device.
