Salm was established as machinery and equipment manufacturer for the brewing industry in Vienna in 1924. With branches in countries of the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy brewing and filling plants were installed. Starting from 1980 the focus was on the development of new systems and technologies for small and medium sized brewery plants. The production of these plants started in 1984.
The aim of this revolutionary development was the sophistication of processes with most detailed time and temperature control with the purpose of constant beer quality. Due to the entirely novel mash and wort heating thermal surcharges were avoided. Additional insulation led to a reduction of the heat requirement of more than 60 % as well as a significant decrease of the power requirement for the cold production.
These technological advantages resulted in an export share of almost 100 %, consequently more than 160 brewery plants have already been supplied world-wide. The rise in exports in the past years resulted in record sales and the award “Austrian export prize” of the Austrian chamber of commerce. Sales in CIS-countries are handled by an own Salm office which was established in 1992. In some other countries there are representations.
Salm brewery plants cannot be compared and differ considerably from other makes. Starting from the use of the best materials, first-class workmanship and a construction based on the experience of 94 years. Salm brewery plants have had the lowest energy consumption for 31 years. Despite classic brewing methods the consumption per hl is between 1.0 and 1.45 litres fuel oil or approx. 1.0 and 1.45 m³ natural gas. The high reliability of operation and the low susceptibility to failure are also worth mentioning.
