A good, hygienic condition of the conveyors is an important factor for avoiding secondary contamination in the bottling area.
In wet-lubricated conveyor belt systems, organic deposits build up between the chain links and the belt bodies. In part, this biofilm already forms in the lines of the lubrication system of the central belt.
As a countermeasure, in many cases, the application solution of the belt lubricant is dosed at intervals or continuously as a disinfectant, e.g. chlorine dioxide, hydrogen peroxide and sometimes, peracetic acid. As these biocides are oxidative and accordingly, are used up fast, the effect is only temporary and limited.
This leaves a lot to be desired in terms of the the effect, especially at neuralgic points such as curves which have slide rails that favour a collection of organic matter or heavily charged areas such as the filler spout. During the idle period overnight and at weekends, there is no impact from these biocides at all.
This results in an increased need for cleaning with a corresponding increase in time and expense.
