ALTER OAK

We offer 225 to 500 litre casks all year round that have contained red or white wine (depending on the emptying season). These casks are selected and delivered direct to our customers without any intervention.

We can select these casks to your exact specifications.

These casks, often used to ‘finish’ or ‘further mature’ spirits, are rigorously selected globally by our team.

To guarantee the freshness of our casks we often reserve them in advance of them being emptied.

Our natural regeneration process (BARENA) is the essential basis for the success of our seasoned casks. In the first phase, we purify the casks. Thanks to the increased porosity of the staves, the conditions are ideal to apply our process of seasoning with our customers’ choice of wine.

The process is only possible by using freshly emptied casks that have been rigorously selected.

The BARENA process is based on the unique principle of natural regeneration by a physico-mechanical process without any disassembly of the cask.

A natural abrasive based on purified quartz crystal is projected inside the barrel, followed by two non-chemical treatments to sanitise the wood and extract the colour and deposits from previous uses.

Advantage for spirits :

• Absence of residual sulfur in the pores of the wood, from the pre-existing wines.
• Preservation of the original cask toast.
• 70% of the original aromas and extractable tannins are still available (compared to a new oak cask).
