Products of Wiegand-Glas, Bayerische Flaschen-Glashüttenwerke Vertriebs-GmbH: Sonderschau Eco2Bottle (5)
Glass is an inert packaging material and can be recycled as often as required. However, the production of glass packaging is also energy-intensive and requires many fossil materials. However, there is great potential in all production steps to avoid, reduce or offset CO2 emissions. With Eco2Bottle, a concept has been developed for the first time that analyzes all steps and consistently exploits the potential. It takes into account various measures to improve the CO2 footprint and can be applied to any existing glass packaging. Eco2Bottle is a joint path to more sustainability from the glass manufacturer to the food and beverage producers to the consumers. After the introduction of the Eco2Bottle concept in 2020, measures as well as strategic approach to sustainability have been constantly evolving. Not only since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war have we been challenged to save energy and primary raw materials while at the same time expanding the use of renewable energies. Whereas in the beginning only rough calculations were possible, today we are able to measure all relevant process parameters exactly and to calculate the CO2 footprint of a product completely in Scope 1, 2 and 3 according to the principle "cradle-to-customer plus waste" (according to the specifications of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol). Our customer thus improves its carbon footprint and the consumer contributes to reducing emissions by using the Eco2Bottle. We started with a 0.75 l. Bordeaux bottle for a customer in Germany and can now boast 13 different Eco2Bottle articles from a wide range of product groups in our product portfolio. In the meantime, deliveries have also been made to Denmark, France, and Italy.
