The Alfa Laval Alhop cold hopping system is a stand-alone system for brewers that speeds up and facilitates hop tamping. This brewing process is becoming increasingly popular due to the growing interest in IPA beer styles, it improves yield and provides greater flavour stability, while reducing hop addition.
This is achieved through the following modes of operation.
- Fast and efficient extraction rate thanks to dynamic movement in the system
- High product throughput without risk of clogging thanks to the cross-flow method
- Optimised quantities thanks to reduced hop addition to the tank
- Simple and automated operation of the self-contained system
After being introduced into the Alhop module, the hop pellets are dissolved in the beer and kept uniformly in the cross-flow recirculation loop. While the system is continuously supplied with beer, cold-hopped beer continuously flows to it through the specially designed filter.
Once the extraction process is complete, beer that is in the system is recovered through a diafiltration process. To recover alpha acids, the hop slurry is further washed out with degassed water, resulting in a pumpable hop suspension.
